Upstream networks
How the platform keeps its links to destination networks healthy, and what that means for your traffic.
Your bind connects to eSMS Africa. We then carry each message to the destination mobile network over our own upstream links. You never configure these links yourself: they are managed by the eSMS operations team.
What you see
Your dashboard reports the outcome for your traffic, by country and destination operator: messages sent, delivery rate, delivery-report confirmation and latency. If a destination has a problem, you see it there and on the public status page.
Link states
The operations team sees each upstream link in one of these states:
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Connected | Active and carrying traffic |
| Connecting | Establishing the link |
| Disconnected | Not connected; traffic moves to another route where one exists |
| Stopped | Taken out of service for maintenance |
Health monitoring
Upstream links are monitored continuously:
- Bind status on each link
- Port availability
- Delivery success rate per destination
- Periodic test messages
If a link fails, the platform restarts it automatically, moves traffic to another route where one exists, and alerts the operations team.
